Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), MSG conducted a comprehensive mixed-methods study to evaluate the effectiveness of the Science, Engineering, and Education for Sustainability (SEES) initiative in advancing interdisciplinary research and education for global sustainability. MSG designed a multi-part evaluation plan that included a historical review of NSF’s sustainability efforts, comparative analyses of SEES program outcomes, and a network analysis to assess cross-disciplinary collaboration. Data collection strategies included focus groups, targeted expert interviews, and large-scale surveys of principal investigators and co-investigators. MSG synthesized findings across all tasks to produce a final evaluation report with actionable recommendations. The study provided NSF with insights to guide future investments in sustainability-focused research and education.
