Manhattan Strategy Group Expert to Introduce New Paper on Preventing and Reducing Substance Use Disorders at the 6th International Conference on Nursing Science & Practice
March 07, 2023

Bethesda, MD – Emily Ehrlich, MPH, Vice President at Manhattan Strategy Group, is a coauthor on preventing and reducing substance use disorders (SUD). Her paper, titled A Community-Academic Partnership to Prevent and Reduce Substance Use Disorders in Metropolitan Detroit During COVID-19, discusses how the COVID-19 pandemic, along with activism against institutional racism, heightened awareness of racial-ethnic disparities and disproportionate burden among the underserved. The opioid crisis further compounds these phenomena, increasing vulnerability for SUD. Community engagement, community-based participatory research, and community health partnerships can facilitate multidisciplinary collaboration, yet literature focused on these approaches to prevent and reduce SUD and associated stigma remains limited. The Detroit Area Mental Health Leadership Team (DAMHLT, since 2015) encourages bidirectional learning, community education, and access to real-time data and scientific discovery to influence community-level research and practice.

The paper is being presented at the 6th International Conference on Nursing Science & Practice. The conference will be held April 12–15, 2023, at the DoubleTree by Hilton in San Francisco, CA. The Nursing Conference 2023 is a leading forum for nurse practitioners, researchers, educators, administrators, policymakers, and students, among others, to advance their professional development and clinical performance. This annual conference hosts diverse presentations dedicated to bringing together nurses who share a passion for patient care.
