Domestic Violence During COVID-19 – Voices from the Field
March 15, 2021

As a result of COVID-19, children and families are at higher risk of experiencing domestic violence. The National Association for Welfare and Statistics (NAWRS) promotes the exchange of ideas on how research and statistical analysis can contribute to the development and administration of effective human services programs. In a virtual session hosted for its member community, NAWRS featured a panel of human service agencies and domestic violence experts who provided an overview of the unique challenges facing low-income populations, strategies that providers can use to support families, and federal attention to domestic violence issues in light of COVID-19.

Manhattan Strategy Group (MSG) sponsored the NAWRS workshop as of part of our continuing mission to solve tough community challenges and improve life for people and families.

Panelists provided NAWRS a set of resources for domestic violence and sexual assault programs, advocates, and survivors. The discussion was moderated by Michael Hayes, Senior Programs Manager, Division of Program Innovation, Office of Child Support Enforcement, and speakers included:

  • Rachel Orsinger – Family Violence Specialist, Family and Youth Services Bureau, Administration for Children & Families
  • Marium Durrani – Director of Policy, National Resource Center on Domestic Violence
  • Samantha Hinchey – Domestic Violence Response Coordinator, Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence
  • Amanda Vazquez – Division Chief of Program Innovation, Texas Office of the Attorney General
