Our Technical Assistance services help our federal clients support their grantees' project implementation efforts and enable them to meet their programmatic objectives. Through the design and delivery of TA, we help our federal clients and those they fund translate knowledge into practice, stimulate innovation, and encourage the use of evidence based practices to accomplish their strategic goals. We typically support federal TA efforts through a mix of webinars, regional workshops, site visits to grantees, and facilitated communities of practice. We also develop robust TA materials such as practitioner guides, toolkits, and factsheets.
Our TA expertise encompasses a number of areas, including early childhood and adult education, workforce development, housing and urban planning, and public health. Specifically, in the early childhood education sector, our TA expertise is devoted to advancing early care and education workforce knowledge and skills, as well as improving program performance and outcomes, while taking into account partnerships with Head Start, childcare and other community-based early childhood programs. The breadth of our TA orientation enables us to provide support to a wide range of organizations at the federal, state, and local levels. Our customizable solutions, and wide network of partners and SMEs enables us to bring together the right team to meet our customer's TA needs. |
Jane Best Director, Education
Technical assistance is one of MSG’s founding services lines and is truly the heart of the firm. We take a cradle-to-grave approach to the grantee support, and we strive to support our clients and their grantees at every turn. Our technical assistance services live well beyond the length of our contracts, as our repeat customers and strong CPARS ratings can attest.

MSG has supported grantees in project and program design, the development of data collection systems, professional development for staff and managers, and improving the efficiency of program delivery and reporting. Throughout all of our projects, MSG has taken a highly customized approach to technical assistance.
We begin with a deep understanding of grantee challenges and needs. Our solutions are tailored to the appropriate service levels and address differing learning needs. MSG is capable of applying multiple delivery strategies for TA, and frequently utilizes a network of partners to ensure dissemination reach. MSG’s rigorous management procedures ensure project success, and our flexible team structure allows for adjustment as projects progress.
MSG's Early Care and Education Topical Brief Series
Manhattan Strategy Group (MSG) has released two of our Early Care and Education Series Topical Briefs, Advancing a Comprehensive Approach to School Readiness, and The Case for Cultivating Dual Language Learners’ Home Languages. These briefs highlight topics of importance for early childhood professionals: adopting a more complete orientation to school readiness and addressing the unique needs of dual language learners.

Interactive Communities of Practice
Communities of practice create a dynamic, collaborative environment for professional development, and at Manhattan Strategy we witness firsthand their transformative power in domains ranging from education to workforce development to public finance. Our team is highly experienced in selecting platforms that meet the needs of our clients and facilitating meaningful interaction amongst community members.
An effective practitioner guide is based on deep field-intensive knowledge of the subject matter and a vision for creating a product that remains relevant and useful for years to come. MSG has been commissioned by multiple agencies to produce practitioner guides, including several for the U.S. Department of Education on topics ranging from afterschool programming to open educational resources.
Intelligently Designed Reporting and Data Collection Systems
Sustainable reporting solutions respond to known user information needs, while also providing the flexibility for users to access and use data in a way that responds to new and emerging information needs. MSG implements knowledge management through ad-hoc reporting and interactive, engaging, and wizard-like interfaces. Our team has developed a suite of reporting tools for agencies such as the National Center for Education Statistics, which included a customized dataset “cutting” tool that allows researchers to slice the full dataset into customized subsets and download them in several different fixed length text and data formats to support additional data analysis and linkages to other key datasets.
Strong Professional Development Resources
The MSG team brings extensive experience developing curricula, resources, tools, and other professional development content for a variety of clients. Our nationally-recognized professional development resources are a cut above the rest, because they are grounded in real practice, at the cutting edge of research, informed by multiple voices, and accessible and engaging.
Information Clearinghouses
Information clearinghouses offer an efficient means of disseminating high-quality research and resources to a dispersed audience of practitioners. MSG support several high-impact "information hubs," including the National Responsible Fatherhood Clearinghouse and the LINCS Resource Collection.
Extensive Information Dissemination
The MSG dissemination approach centers on creating materials that are targeted for the appropriate audience with the ultimate goal of getting best practices into the hands of practitioners. We are experienced in developing audience profiles that help us customize communications to reach those who will be most receptive to them, thereby ensuring that our dissemination efforts are both wide reaching and also result in measurable change. With deep experience in a number of domains, we are well poised to reach a wide range of critical stakeholders.
