As our nation’s unemployment surges the public workforce development system is struggling to respond. The American Job Centers are constrained in their efforts to connect candidates with employers, as they practice social distancing to avoid the spread of the pandemic. When the immediate crisis abates, these systems will be faced by unprecedented numbers of individuals seeking re-employment, even as employers seek to re-build their staff and operations. The system further struggles to meet citizens’ immediate needs; managing and processing claims has proven overwhelming to the UI system, thus limiting citizens’ access to vital short-term resources. MSG is poised to support the UI system in its response with real capacity. Further, our expertise in virtual service delivery techniques, employer engagement, and workforce development processes can support the workforce system to continue to perform its vital function as America recovers.
